Norman Borlaug is an agricultural scientist and Nobel peace prize winner who has spent most of his life working to increase the world's food supply and now he is being recognized by the United States Congress for his efforts. Borlaug has been awarded the Congressional Gold Medal for his work going back more than half a century in developing higher yield disease resistant crops and modern farming techniques.Techniques developed by Borlaug have helped double the food supply in places like Mexico, and the Asian sub-continent. In recent years he has focused his efforts on Africa and other areas of Asia. When he won the Nobel prize in 1970, it was the first given for work related to agriculture.
