I'm guessing a lot of our readers are in favor of green car technologies because they're better for the environment than using whatever standard engine or powerplant (that's the theory, anyway). But if you're keen on the other kind of green, here's yet another post for you.
Greenpeace and the European Renewable Energy Council (EREC) have released the first global analysis that looks as using renewable energy instead of fossil fuels. The payoff? US$180 billion per year. Wow, that's a lot of scratch. Even better? CO2 emissions will be cut in half by 2030. All we need is $22 billion in green tech investments each year and we'll get $202 billion back.
The report is called "Future Investment - A Sustainable Investment Plan for the Power Sector to Save the Climate," and it puts solar, wind, hydro, geothermal and bioenergy on the renewable side, and fossil fuel, coal and nuclear power on the other.
How do cars and trucks fit in? The report doesn't really say. It doesn't mention hybrids at all, ethanol and biodiesel are each mentioned twice in charts about current production, and hydrogen is called simply "a promising alternative fuel."
