Let's celebrate the world's innovations in clean transportation technology with... the tax break! That's right, ladies and gentlemen, it's back and better than ever, because electric cars aren't good enough on their own - to buy them we need incentives other than saving our planet and livelihood, as well as all those novel little advantages of electric cars, like needing only a two-speed transmission (see Tesla Roadster) if you have one at all, not needing any new refueling infrastructure except for long haul jaunts, much fewer parts to maintain, and more torque than you can shake a push-rod at.
Comin' at ya from South Carolina, a new state tax rebate will come carrying a whopping figure of $300. A little walking around money for you, perhaps to buy a smaller purse or wallet now that you've emptied your current accessory's contents buying your newfangled Tesla rocket. In all honesty, it's great that South Carolina is acknowledging electric cars with an official tax incentive, and hopefully it shows that the door is open for the electric market. But $300? And it applies to hybrids and alternative fuel vehicles as well, so I don't see what's so special about it. Besides, is that extra money-clip stuffing really going to make anyone finally say, "Golly, I guess I better buy that hybrid now"? All it does is sweeten the deal - but when it comes down to it, I guess it's still a good thing.
