Travelers sets up cheaper insurance for hybrid drivers

Travelers, one of the biggest insurance companies in the US, has announced a set of rules about risk management, insurance products and services, and corporate operations that consider the consequences of climate change.

The most visible measure is offering a 10 percent national discount on insurance for hybrid drivers. This is announced as an incentive for individuals who want to reduce their impact on the environment. Other features that are remarkable include replacing damage boilers and machinery with efficient models and offering specific insurance programs for clean energy technology (i. e. wind farms).

In such a serious business as insurance, it's remarkable that a company is keeping an eye on climate change. Travelers announced other initiatives such as its commitment in case of catastrophes, with initiatives like business continuity workshops for policyholders in risky regions, the promotion of damage mitigation strategies and sponsoring the National Hurricane Survival initiative. The company also claims that its two main campuses are EPA-certified for energy efficiency and that is collaborating with several climate change institutions and task forces.
