The 2008 EPA fuel economy numbers are in and the Toyota Prius and Honda Civic Hybrid again top the charts overall. Under the new 2008 test procedures, the Prius scores a 48/45 city/highway in the mid-size class and the Civic came in at 40/45 in the compact class. Honda's overall fleet average was number one overall at 22.9 mpg average just ahead of Toyota and Hyundai at 22.8 and 22.7 respectively. GM led the domestics with a 19.4mpg average. Overall the industry average was the same 20.2 mpg as last year showing that even with gas prices staying in the $3 a gallon range Americans still haven't really migrated much to more efficient vehicles.
